Deaf Awareness Week on Tour – JCI UK Raises Awareness

JCI UK is a place to develop your leadership skills, meet inspiring people and make an impact in your local community. Chambers across the UK have decided to join forces to make a greater impact within their communities by participating in the Deaf Awareness Week on Tour.
Background
2017 saw the beginning of the "Deaf Awareness Program" launched by JCI Cambridge. The purpose of this program was to raise awareness of those who are hearing impaired. JCI Cambridge organised a "Quiz with a Twist" during the UK-wide Deaf Awareness Week with authentic rounds such as lip reading, charades, and a true or false awareness fact round. They provided opportunities for inclusion and personal development to deaf professionals by having ??British Sign Language interpreters at their "Building Confidence" training evening. Due to the success of this project which won "Best Local Community Empowerment Program" at the UK National Convention, JCI UK would like to roll this project out nationwide.
Many people struggle with their hearing with 1 in 6 people in the UK affected by hearing loss, that’s around 11 million people.
How Chambers Can Get Involved
The "Deaf Awareness Week on Tour" project is a coordinated effort for as many chambers within the UK and abroad to raise awareness and funds of those who are hearing impaired. This will be done by hosting a "Quiz with a Twist" during the official Deaf Awareness Week.

- Chambers can select any day between May 14th -20th to host the quiz
- Chambers have two quiz options
- Questions for the quiz rounds and answer sheets:
- Marketing material
- This package includes everything listed in the “Orchard Park” package
- Short 20-30 minutes deaf awareness talk by a representative from a local deaf (hard of hearing) charity. Note that it is the responsibility of the hosting chamber to find a suitable charity in their town.
