Life in lockdown: A time to reflect
At the start of the year when the 2020 Manchester board met for our planning day, no one could have predicted exactly what the upcoming months would bring. Which is why halfway through one very strange year, our board of directors decided to get together to reflect on this challenging time and what 2020 has taught us so far.  What we’ve missed During lockdown many events, celebrations and plans have had to be cancelled and sorely missed. Some key things our team have missed are:
  • Friends and family
  • Changes in our environment
  • Our work teams and offices
  • Fresh coffee
  • Restaurants
What we’ve been doing With plans being cancelled and staff being furloughed, many of us have found ourselves having extra time on our hands. Things we’ve been doing to fill our time is:
  • Home hair cuts
  • Meeting in parks and car parks (just to see friends and family from 2m apart)
  • Watching Netflix *more on this below
  • Reading
  • Home workouts
  • Baking banana bread
  • Volunteering
  • Painting
*We’re sure we’re not the only ones who have found ourselves spending time watching more TV, so here are a few suggestions of things we’ve watched:
  • Contagion (scary how similar the movie is to real life)
  • Selling Sunset
  • Schitt's Creek
  • Below Deck
  • Little Fires Everywhere
Overall whilst lockdown has been difficult, it has also enabled us to think about our day to day lives, and what we've learnt and done well so far this year.  What we’ve learnt
  • It’s important to get things off your chest and talk to those around us
  • Be kinder to yourself
  • Take time to learn new skills
  • Don’t wait around, as you might miss the boat.
What we’ve done well:
  • Carrying on with the ‘new normal’
  • Adapting to change
  • Continuing with events
  • Communicating
