Membership Impact Week Day 2 - Meet Ian and Ben from JCI Barnsley
It's two for the price of one on Day 2 of Membership Impact Week - meet Ian Bragger and Ben Hawley from JCI Barnsley, who have both been members for around 6 months and have both already joined the local council.
IAN:
Why did you join JCI?
I joined JCI to learn new skills that will benefit my career.
What is the most interesting event you've been to so far and why?
I have been involved in a 2 hour internet radio show which is something I never imagined myself doing. This was interesting for a number of reasons, as it helped to improve some skills such as communication, but also helped us to spread the word of JCI Barnsley.
What have you learned/what skills have you developed since you joined?
My confidence has improved as has my public speaking, but with further courses on offer in the future then these can be improved even more! I have learned that there are more people than I initially thought that are in the same situation as me, and that are requiring some training to improve these skills. With JCI if you want a course in the future to focus on a certain area of development, then it is likely other people will find the same course useful too.
What do you enjoy most about being a JCI member?
Meeting new people and learning from their experiences.
Can you give some top tips to new members?
Be open minded and feel free to make any requests regarding future events then the future can be tailored to you.
BEN:
Why did you join JCI?
After I started a new business, I found the only real downside was that I was working on my own. I heard about JCI at a
networking event from an existing member and thought it would give me not only additional networking opportunities, but also the new social group that I was wanting.
What is the most interesting event you've been to so far and why?
The Networking training was helpful. Although I feel I'm good at networking, there were still some really good advice and tips on how it could be done better.
What have you learned/what skills have you developed since you joined?
I've found the Extempore training to be the most useful. It's help develop skill in an area I've found very useful in both my professional and personal lives.
What do you enjoy most about being a JCI member?
I've only been a member since February, but I've already made some really good friends. Everyone is very welcoming.
Can you give some top tips to new members?
Jump in at the deep end. JCI is like anything, the more you put in, the more you get out. Within 6 months, I'm one of the local directors and find that this is helping me improve my social and professional lives.
