Networking Wednesday: A First Timer's View
Networking Wednesday: A First Timer's View
After attending his first JCI event on Wednesday 26 February 2014, we asked Louis Simms to write a few words on his experience and what people thinking of coming along to a JCI Sheffield event can expect...
I was invited by a friend 24 hours before attending my first JCI networking event. I didn’t know what to expect as I have only been in business for around 4 week and haven’t participated in many networking events. I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to meet likeminded people.
When I arrived I felt a little nervous about approaching people and what there reaction would be towards me. However 10 minutes in I felt like part of the JCI family as I was welcomed in with open arms. Everyone was a pleasure to talk. The range of skills and knowledge within the JCI team was impressive and could help anyone who is looking to get into business.
I didn’t realise that members of JCI were volunteers yet have jobs as well. It’s a very admirable thing that they are doing going out to help the local community.
I hope this is something that I can be a part of in the near future. They are one of the most supportive groups of people I’ve met to date, helping me with my questions and recommending things that I wouldn’t have even thought of. Not to mention they also go on some pretty decent trips like their upcoming Gripple tour which I hope to attend.
I would recommend people to sign up. Especially students in the Sheffield region as it could be highly beneficial to your future career.
